Session 20 2017-05-10
The Road to Noanar Hold

The party continued their travels toward Noanar Hold. They traveled briefly through Yartar and on the first evening past that, they encountered a traveling halfling who asked to share their campsite for the evening and cooked them a dinner of rabbits. Although the party was suspicious, they agreed and he told them about old dark rumors surrounding the hunt lords of Noanar Hold. He left the next morning and as he winked at Aria, she noticed his eyes very quickly change to a sort of reptilian look. Later that day the cart hit a large pothole in the road and shattered the wheel. They dragged it off to the side and camped. During the night they heard something huge briefly fly over. The next morning, Felgelos the Flying Misfortune appeared, carrying a captured Zhentarim wagon to replace the broken one. He then shapechanged into the halfling from the night before and thanked them for their hospitality before flying off again. They reached the village of Calling Horns. While staying in the Inn, the party was awakened by a pair of trolls trying to break into the stables to eat the horses. They sprang into action and quickly dispatched them.

Triboar

Several grateful Triboar townsfolk offered up information as thanks for driving off the fire giants. The lord protector asked that the party deliver news of the Giant incursions to her associates in Everlund. One of the local store keeps asked the part to deliver an order of fine saddles and harnesses to Noanar Hold, and the party is currently heading east with a small cart pulled by a draft horse. The also recieved leads about numerous opportunities including a retired adventurer in possession of a giant slayer great axe, as well as a cache of magic items hidden in a carriage house in Silverymoon. The party was ambushed by a pack of 4 crag cats which they managed to dispatch.

Triboar

The party attempted to parlay with the Fire giants, and learned that they were there under the orders of someone named Duke Zalto. Although the giants seemed like they were just willing to take the object they were digging up and leave, the party didn’t trust them and decided to attack. Kriv the sorceror was hit by a flying boulder and knocked unconsious…twice. The druid summoned lightning from the sky while the Orcs harried the party with hit and run attacks on their axe beaks. The party proved too much, however, and the the giants attempted to retreat. Kriv’s hypnotic pattern caused the male giant to stop up short a couple of times, but the female smacked him out of it and the attempted to flee. They weren’t fast enough, however, and the female fell while the male voiced vengeance against the party before fleeing without his prize. It was discovered that the giants were digging up what looked like a huge, 1,000 pound piece of adamantine…a piece of some sort of of giant magical construct.

Triboar

The fight against the Orogs and Magmin was short but fierce. The druid conjured a sleet storm which took half of the enemies out of the fight initially, allowing the party to focus on the other half. One of the townsfolk helping out was laid low, but brought back by the cleric. After finishing off these combatants, they rushed towards the center of town where a pair of fire giants appeared to be digging something up. A half a dozen orcs riding on axe beaks harried anyone that got close….

Triboar

While in Triboar asking about for news about Harshnag, they overheard a pair of farmer brothers trying to convince the local Lord Protector that their brother, missing for 10 years, was still in town. A traveling priest of Helm used a divination spell to tell them this. Fargrim the paladin investigated and discovered the man’s skeleton in the attic of his wife’s boarding house. The wife was taken into custody and the brothers gave the party their brothers heirloom, a magical longbow. They made plans to head towards the Evermoor where a woodland scout mentioned having seen Harshnag some time ago. Before they could leave however, the town was suddenly attacked by a pair of Fire Giants leading a group of Orcs, Orogs, and Magmin.

The next morning they found a small pouch that was left behind with descriptions of the party members plus a symbol that the paladin was able to identify as the symbol for the Kraken Society. Amphail

After returning from Olthanas’s cloud castle, the party explored Waterdeep a bit. Began traveling towards Kryptgarden Forest. The journey was mostly uneventful though one evening it seemed that a shadowy figure lingered near the camp before continuing on down the road. Reached Amphail where there was a big party for Lord Roaringhorn. The smell of food attracted three hungry Hill Giants which the party fought off. The party commenced and a few party members got in trouble with the local constables for crooked gambling. They headed out towards Red Larch the following day.

Cloud Giants Bargain

Explored the rest of the castle. Fought a Helmed Horror and Rug of smothering. Spotted a white dragon lairing in one of the towers on the largest island and determined it was probably Olthanas’s pet. Found a magic ring in the map room along with more evidence of Majordomo Balakar’s duplicity. Headed to the main island and the audience chamber. Presented evidence of Balakar’s treachery at which point she activated a magical choker on Olthana’s neck which started to kill him, called the dragon to aid her, and attacked. Some party members worked on freeing Olthanas from the necklace while the rest fought Balakar. When the dragon showed up, it looked confused as Olthanas pleaded with it the best he could. Marco communicated with the dragon via his psuedodragon’s telepathic link and convinced it to turn on Majordomo Balakar. With the fall of the Majordomo, the necklace strangling Olthanas fell away from his neck.

Cloud Giants Bargain

Began exploring the Cloud giant castle. Discovered a dead cloud giant guard and determined he was poisoned. Found the kitchens and questioned the goblin servants. Fought and killed a pair of Hell hounds in the dining room and discovered a halberd of wounding and a sentinel shield. Found Majordomo Balkama’s office and found three empty vials of poison hidden in her desk. Tricked Olthanas’s grandfather (in the spa) into thinking they were Olthanas and determined that Olthanas was not a devout follower of Memnor (The Cloud giant god of deception and trickery). They were pretty sure The Majordomo was not on the up and up but decided to explore the other islands of the castle before heading to the meeting with Olthanas.
