Cloud Giants Bargain

Began exploring the Cloud giant castle. Discovered a dead cloud giant guard and determined he was poisoned. Found the kitchens and questioned the goblin servants. Fought and killed a pair of Hell hounds in the dining room and discovered a halberd of wounding and a sentinel shield. Found Majordomo Balkama’s office and found three empty vials of poison hidden in her desk. Tricked Olthanas’s grandfather (in the spa) into thinking they were Olthanas and determined that Olthanas was not a devout follower of Memnor (The Cloud giant god of deception and trickery). They were pretty sure The Majordomo was not on the up and up but decided to explore the other islands of the castle before heading to the meeting with Olthanas.

Waterdeep

Upon arriving at the city of Waterdeep, the party first visited the family home of Zi Liang from Goldenfields and delivered her amulet. The butler presented them with Zi’s inheritance, a pair of potions. They then met with Chazlauth Yarghorn, as urged by Naxene Drathkala, and discussed Naxene’s plan to enlist the aid of good aligned dragons to fight the giants. Chazlauth said this was a terrible idea, but that enlisting the aid of evil dragons could actually work. He suggested they seek out “Old Gnaw-Bone” in the Kryptgarden Forest as she was rumored to have a collection of crystal balls and other scrying devices which she uses to keep abreast of doings in the world. Shortly after this meeting, they were approached by a representative of Acquisitions, INC. who wanted to hire them to infiltrate a cloud giant castle headed for Waterdeep. The castle was under the control of Olthanas, the son of Count Stratovan, a notorious cloud giant that was apparently mounting an attack on the swordcoast near the city of Neverwinter. Acquisitions, INC recieved word from Olthanas’s Majordomo, Balkamar, that Olthanas was seeking peace with the small folk and Acquisitions, INC. wanted the party to infiltrate the castle and meet with Olthanas to determine his intentions. The party entered the flying castle by jumping from a gnome dirigible and then using a token to cast feather fall on themselves when they neared an outside castle garden.

They discover a group of orcs attacking what looks like a Treant stuck in an old tower. Next to the tower is a group of hafling prisoners. They attack and slay the orcs and manage to free the Treant from his tower prison. the haflings say the orcs attacked their homestead, looking for slaves to sell to the Giants. They ask if they’ll accompany them back home, which the party agrees to do. The halflings give the party a family heirloom, a broom of flying, as thanks for saving them.

Goldenfields

After Liferlas charged the invading force, the party was forced into combat to save the children of Goldenfields. Strog Thunderblade led a force outside the walls to engage the main force while the party fought alongside the enraged tree. They managed to win the day and end the threat to Goldenfields. A feast was held in the parties honor and many of the residents imparted gifts of information as a way of thanks. One of the people they fought alongside felt that the giant attacks were just beginning. She implored the party to travel to the city of Waterdeep and seek out a wizardly colleague of hers who was an expert on dragons. She felt that the dragons, ancient enemies of the giants, could be enlisted in the fight against them.

Goldenfields

The fight against the hill giants, Lob and Ogg was fierce. The party managed to kill Ogg, and Lob surrendered after being badly wounded. After questioning, Lob told them that “Get food for Guh”. They told him to leave and never come back, but Strog Thunderblade, captain of Goldenfields guards, showed up and ordered his men to shoot Lobb down.

After a much needed nights rest, they discovered that a number of goldenfields children had been kidnapped during the chaos of the night before, and soon a large force of Hill giants, goblins, bugbears, and ogres wearing strange catapult devices on their shoulders showed up just outside the walls. They demanded a giant cart of food or they would begin catapulting the children over the walls. After much discussion, a large cart of food was put together and the party accompanied it out of the main gate to make the exchange. However, Liferlas, the awakened tree who lived in Goldenfields, saw that some of the children were injured, flew into a rage, and charged.

The Tower of Zephyros

As the party prepared to leave Nightstone to make the trek to Goldenfields, a flying cloud tower appeared above the village and lowered a spiral set of stairs made of firm cloudstuff. Upon ascending to the tower, they discovered it’s owner, a rather eccentric cloud giant named Zephyros. He told them about how the ordning of the giants had been broken, and that groups of his kin were casuing trouble across the sword coast. Being a powerful wizard, he had been using divination magics to search for a solution. He had been lead to assist the party by transporting them to a location of their choosing. They asked for him to take them to Goldenfields and he readily obliged.

Along the way, the tower was visited by a group of air elemental cultists on giant vultures, looking to recruit Zephyros for their evil plans. The party objected and combat ensued. The cultists released an invisible stalker from a bag of holding, but the heroes still eventually won the day.

The Dripping Caves

The party discovered some guards left in the nearly ruined keep. They learned from them that the village was attacked by giants from a floating cloud castle. They bombarded the village with boulders before descending and taking the large, obsidian stone from the center of town that is the village’s namesake. They mentioned that the villagers had most likely fled to a cave system north of the village, and tracks headed that direction confirmed this.

The caves turned out to be recently inhabited by a tribe of goblins allied with a pair of ogres. The party fought and killed the ogres plus a few goblins before encountering a goblin looking to make a deal. She offered to free the captured villagers if they would kill goblin’s leader, Boss Hark so she could become the leader. they did so, and she made good on her promise to free the villagers.

Upon return to the village, they found a wagon of building supplies outside the gates that had apprently been dropped off by Felgelos. the party also undertook a quest to return the tressym to the son of it’s owners, who lived in the walled farm abbey of Goldenfields.

Nightstone

While clearing out the village of goblins, they discovered one survivor, a woman in the Inn. Her story seemed dubious and the party soon learned she was an agent for the Zhentarim. The next morning, a group of her fellow comrades arrived in town and laid claim to the village. The party objected and it came to blows. The Zhentarim captain was a difficult foe, but they were defeated in the end.

One the heels of that, an Orc warband, fleeing a disastrous encounter with elves in the nearby forest, came upon the village and attempted to take it as a fortified position. The party did their best to fight them and again save the village, but were hard pressed and close to being overwhelmed. At the point, a bronze dragon suddenly appeared and handily helped defeat the rampaging orcs. He introduced himself as Felgelos, known throughout the sword coast as The Flying Misfortune. A clumsy tail whip taking out the village steeple lent credence to this nickname.
